The Town of Beech Mountain is headed up by a five member Town Council whose actions are carried out by the Town Manager. The Town Manager works with 55 full time employees to increase the quality of life for the citizens and visitors of Beech Mountain by supporting Town departments with quality, state of the art municipal personnel services. As a service provider, the Town relies on well-trained, motivated, caring and professional employees.

The Town has approximately 2,350 dwelling units on the mountain, 62 miles of road, produces water for consumption, treats sewer, provides both indoor and outdoor recreational opportunities, polices the community, provides trash collection along with a recycling center, houses E-911, has a Municipal Fire Department, and continues to grow visitor numbers while drawing in new business opportunities. Employment Opportunity: Recreation Technician: performs general to semi-skilled manual labor work in the maintenance and repair of buildings, grounds, hiking and mountain biking trails and the winter operation of the Sled Hill for the Parks and Recreation Department. 

  • Illustrative Tasks
    •Performs general grounds keeping and landscaping duties including planting, cutting, and pruning trees and shrubs and mulching; uses equipment to mow grass, weed eat, rakes leaves, cut back ditch banks, and other tasks
    •Performs regular inspections of trails and facilities and assists in planning and construction of new parks and trails
    •Builds new or refurbishes signage, picnic tables and park benches; Installs new or repairs split-rail fencing
    •Operates pickup trucks, skid steer, mowers and UTV as well as uses chainsaws, leaf blowers, brush cutters, pole saw, gas powered auger, edger, wood cutting saws, drills, sanders and 6 kw manual snow gun
    •Picks up and disposes of trash and garbage; empties trash containers in areas
    •Inspects facilities for safety hazards; makes repairs or refers to skilled trades employees
    •Helps set up for programs and special events; assists with the installation
    •Supervises and directs activities of assigned part-time staff, volunteers and Community Service workers
    •Performs related tasks as required


    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
    General knowledge of the tools, materials, and equipment used in grounds maintenance work and in standard building trades; general knowledge of turf maintenance
    Some knowledge of safety precautions applicable to the duties of the class
    Ability to understand and follow both oral and written instructions
    Ability to prepare written reports; ability to operate machinery and equipment
    Ability to perform manual labor for extended periods of time
    Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and exhibit act when dealing with public
    Ability to use a computer and related software

    Pay rate: $31,157.83 – $46,274.52  : full-time with complete Town of Beech Mountain benefits package. Education and Experience: Graduation from high school or GED equivalency and some prior related experience in building and grounds maintenance. Valid driver license recognized in the State of North Carolina. First aid and CPR.  North Carolina Pesticide Applicator’s license is preferred.  FLSA Status: Nonexempt
