The Town of Beech Mountain is governed by a non-partisan five member Town Council whose actions are carried out by the Town Manager. The Town Manager works with approximately 55 full time employees to increase the quality of life for the citizens and visitors of Beech Mountain by supporting Town departments with quality, state of the art municipal personnel services. As a service provider, the Town relies on well-trained, motivated, caring and professional employees.

The Town has approximately 2,350 dwelling units on the mountain, 62 miles of road, produces water for consumption, treats sewer, provides both indoor and outdoor recreational opportunities, polices the community, provides trash collection along with a recycling center, houses E-911, has a Municipal Fire Department, and continues to grow visitor numbers while drawing in new business opportunities. Seasonal Public Works Maintenance Worker

Seasonal position (40hrs/week) $14.00 per hour, April 1, 2021 through September 30, 2021- A Seasonal Maintenance Worker performs a variety of unskilled and semi‑skilled manual labor tasks, equipment operation and other duties as required within the Public Works Department for roadside maintenance and street maintenance and roadside landscaping. Employees in this class perform a variety of semi‑skilled and unskilled manual labor tasks in the construction, maintenance, and repair of streets, park facilities, and other Town facilities. Work involves serving as a member of Public Works crew. Duties include operating light to medium equipment; maintaining paved and gravel roads; installing and repairing street signs; collecting debris impeding traffic or pose a safety concern; cleaning culverts; making water and sewer taps; assisting in minor repair of equipment and vehicles; removing trees and trimming limbs, snow/leaf removal, and related tasks. Work is performed under regular supervision of Maintenance Crew Leader in accordance with specific instructions and within defined procedures. Valid standard Driver’s License recognized in the State of N.C. required. Positions are open until filled. Summer Camp Counselor Job Description 2021


Parks and Recreation Summer Camp Counselor

Seasonal position (32 hrs/week) $10.00 per hour

June 1, 2021 through August 1, 2021

Supervised by Recreation Activities Coordinator

The Camp Buckeye Counselor is responsible for planning and leading programs while providing positive experiences for participants. They will also be responsible for the general safety, development, growth, and skill achievement of the participants. The incumbent will provide high quality outdoor educational and recreational experiences for participants. All Counselors must participate in five days of training before camp begins.


  • Organize and lead a variety of group activities each week. Activities may include crafts, nature, songs, games, opening and closing procedures, swimming, canoeing. This includes time spent on a bus to and from field trips.
  • Communicate with parents about participants’ experiences and report concerns to Camp Director.
  • Assist in maintaining accurate program records including incident reports, logbook documentation, and daily attendance.
  • Know and understand ALL emergency procedures associated with the camp program.
  • Exhibit personal habits, health, dress, speech, table etiquette and relationships with other staff that serve as a beneficial model to campers.
  • Help guide Junior Counselors to have a deeper understanding of leadership and counseling skills.
  • Learn all opening and closing procedures for recreation facility.


  • Upon hire, completion of First Aid and CPR certification or must be able to attend class on Beech Mountain
  • Experience in camp, youth programs, recreation, and working with children
  • Ability to lead, plan, organize, and implement program activities
  • Ability to work as a member of a team and accomplish tasks with little direct supervision
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Occasional weekend work or evening hours will be required

Police Officer I 

Police Officer Salary Range: $36,070.03 – $54,105.06 (DOQE) Police Officer’s general duty law enforcement work in varied areas of the department. Work includes patrol, investigating traffic accidents, investigating criminal activity, serving warrants, traffic law enforcement, responding to domestic disputes, and other work applicable to law enforcement. Employee is highly visible in the community and exercises visible presence to prevent or abate crime. Employee must have the ability to develop a positive public image, display tact and firmness when interacting with criminal suspects or witnesses, apply reasoned and experienced judgment and discretion, and project a positive attitude. Work is performed under the direction of the immediate supervisor and is evaluated for effectiveness, visibility, compliance with standards, public support, and attainment of performance objectives. 

Education & Experience: Graduation from high school or GED equivalency; experience in law enforcement work and must have obtained (and maintain) Basic Law Enforcement Training Certification (BLET) as a law enforcement officer by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission and an Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice or related field is preferred. Must be available to work 12 hour shifts days and/or nights, weekends, and/or holidays.
