The Town of Beech Mountain is headed up by a five member Town Council whose actions are carried out by the Town Manager. The Town Manager works with 55 full time employees to increase the quality of life for the citizens and visitors of Beech Mountain by supporting Town departments with quality, state of the art municipal personnel services. As a service provider, the Town relies on well-trained, motivated, caring and professional employees.
The Town has approximately 2,350 dwelling units on the mountain, 62 miles of road, produces water for consumption, treats sewer, provides both indoor and outdoor recreational opportunities, polices the community, provides trash collection along with a recycling center, houses E-911, has a Municipal Fire Department, and continues to grow visitor numbers while drawing in new business opportunities. POLICE OFFICER I
An employee in this class performs general duty law enforcement work in varied areas of the department. Work includes patrol, investigating traffic accidents, investigating criminal activity, serving warrants, traffic law` enforcement, responding to domestic disputes, and other work applicable to law enforcement. Employee is highly visible in the community and exercises visible presence to prevent or abate crime. Employee must have the ability to develop a positive public image, display tact and firmness when interacting with criminal suspects or witnesses, apply reasoned and experienced judgment and discretion, and project a positive attitude. Work is performed under the direction of the immediate supervisor and is evaluated for effectiveness, visibility, compliance with standards, public support, and attainment of performance objectives.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
Graduation from high school or GED equivalency; some experience in law enforcement work is desired and an Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice or related field is preferred.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT EXAMPLES
- Must obtain (and maintain) Basic Law Enforcement Certification (BLET) as a law enforcement officer by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission (required to be continuously employed)
- Must successfully complete the department field training program
- The officer must successfully complete the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission requirements for probationary certification

Job Opportunity: Summer Camp Counselor- Job Description: The Camp Counselor is responsible for organizing and leading a variety of group activities including crafts, nature hikes, education, songs, games, swimming and canoeing. They are responsible for planning and leading programs while providing positive experiences for participants. They will also be responsible for the general safety, development, growth, and skill achievement of the participants. Parks and Recreation Group Fitness Instructor- Job Description: The Group Fitness Instructor will provide group fitness instruction through a variety of entertaining, educational, and fun classes to promote health, wellness, and fitness in a safe environment serving as a fitness resource for class participants.
