The Town of Beech Mountain is governed by a non-partisan five member Town Council whose actions are carried out by the Town Manager. The Town Manager works with approximately 55 full time employees to increase the quality of life for the citizens and visitors of Beech Mountain by supporting Town departments with quality, state of the art municipal personnel services. As a service provider, the Town relies on well-trained, motivated, caring and professional employees.

The Town has approximately 2,350 dwelling units on the mountain, 62 miles of road, produces water for consumption, treats sewer, provides both indoor and outdoor recreational opportunities, polices the community, provides trash collection along with a recycling center, houses E-911, has a Municipal Fire Department, and continues to grow visitor numbers while drawing in new business opportunities. Sled Hill Attendant
Job Description: Parks and Recreation Sled Hill Attendant – seasonal position- employee will be responsible for opening and closing the hill, greeting visitors and explaining the sledding hill rules. The attendant is responsible for keeping guests safe. The person will need to monitor hill conditions and notify personnel of any problems. Weekend and holiday hours will be required.
Hours: Monday-Friday 1:00-5:00 pm and Saturdays and Sundays from 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM. November through March.
Rate of Pay: $10.00 per hour

Police Officer I 

Police Officer Salary Range: $36,070.03 – $54,105.06 (DOQE) Police Officer’s general duty law enforcement work in varied areas of the department. Work includes patrol, investigating traffic accidents, investigating criminal activity, serving warrants, traffic law enforcement, responding to domestic disputes, and other work applicable to law enforcement. Employee is highly visible in the community and exercises visible presence to prevent or abate crime. Employee must have the ability to develop a positive public image, display tact and firmness when interacting with criminal suspects or witnesses, apply reasoned and experienced judgment and discretion, and project a positive attitude. Work is performed under the direction of the immediate supervisor and is evaluated for effectiveness, visibility, compliance with standards, public support, and attainment of performance objectives. 

Education & Experience: Graduation from high school or GED equivalency; experience in law enforcement work and must have obtained (and maintain) Basic Law Enforcement Training Certification (BLET) as a law enforcement officer by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission and an Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice or related field is preferred. Must be available to work 12 hour shifts days and/or nights, weekends, and/or holidays. Telecommunicator I

Town of Beech Mountain Telecommunicator Position: $16.68 – $24.77 (salary range depending on qualification/experience) To perform 911 communications and varied clerical work receiving emergency and non-emergency calls from the public, dispatching appropriate response and updating status of public safety personnel. Essential Duties: Receives routine dispatch and emergency telephone calls and personal requests for assistance concerning crimes, fires, rescue and other needs or general information. Operates a variety of electronic equipment to maintain contact with police and fire personnel and other law enforcement units;  monitors and coordinates police, fire and EMS activity and assignments; provides information about the situation as it develops and/or background information from the DCI and other computer systems; updates status and locations of public safety personnel. Records all requests for assistance in CAD systems and assigns case numbers as needed; enters warrant and subpoena information, trespass notices and animal registrations in computer. Ability to multi-task in emergency situations maintaining law enforcement protocols and procedures while demonstrating high level of mental stability and professionalism under pressure. Operates a computer terminal connected with the Division of Criminal Information (DCI) and the National Crime Information Center to obtain driver’s history, vehicle registration data and criminal record information; maintains communications logs and reports including the nature of calls, actions taken and the times involved. Experience, Knowledge, Skills: Valid driver’s license recognized in the state of North Carolina. Must have or be able to be certified by the State of North Carolina as a DCI Operator; as a Telecommunicator by the North Carolina Sheriff’s Commission or the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission within timeframes specified by the Department. Obtain an Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) certification within timeframes specified by the Department. Must successfully complete the departments field training program. Must be available to work 12 hour shifts days and/or nights, weekends, and/or holidays.
