Overview
The Beech Mountain Planning and Inspections Department interprets and enforces the North Carolina State Building Codes and the Town of Beech Mountain Land Use Ordinances (Title XV of the Code of Ordinances). The Department is staffed by an Administrative Assistant, who is primarily responsible for the day-to-day operation of the Inspection Division by answering general questions, receiving and issuing building and other permits; Building Inspectors who are primarily responsible for interpretation and application of the NC State Building Codes and for performing inspections; and a Director of Planning and Inspections, who is primarily responsible for Planning, Code Enforcement, and as a clerk to the Planning Board, Board of Adjustment, and Tree Board.

Permitting
Permitting is conducted through our online portal, Edmunds (see link below). An account is required for this portal. All applications must be submitted through the online system; additional surcharges may be added for paper copies. All required forms and fields must be completed for each respective application. Once the application submitted, it will be reviewed by staff and either returned to the applicant for incompletion, or sent for fee processing. A summary of fees can be found below. Once fees have been paid by the applicant, a permit may be issued. Common permit types include:

- Driveway/Earthwork
- Tree
- Zoning
Permits take a minimum of 2 business days to be processed. New construction, addition/full renovation, and commercial projects take a minimum of 7 days to be processed. For projects with plans, please see the Plan Review section below for expected review timelines.
