Q: Do I need a 4X4 on Beech Mountain during the Winter Season?
A: Yes, 4X4 and AWD vehicles are strongly recommended from November to March. Tire chains are sold at the following locations: High South Wrecker Service, Banner Elk Exxon

Q: Can I cut down a tree and have the Road Maintenance Department pick it up?
A: No. A permit is required to cut any tree with a diameter greater than 6 inches. Please contact the Planning Department for a permit application. Our curbside service is reserved for limbs and yard debris less than 6 inches in diameter.

Q: I am having one of my lots cleared for development, will the Road Maintenance Crew pick up my debris?
A: No. Our special pickup service is reserved for moderate collections of yard debris that must be clearly sorted and placed at the curbside. Town service is not provided following any contracted land clearing activities.

Q: I trimmed my trees and manicured my yard all by myself, will the Town get my debris?
A: The quantity of yard waste that the Road Maintenance Department will remove is up to the direction of the Public Works Director. If the volume of yard waste exceeds what the Road Maintenance Crew deems appropriate for a single pickup, the debris will remain in place until the Director is able to assess the quantity and substance of the debris. Residents may be eligible to expend up to 4 of their allotted annual pickups or agree to a $80 service charge if allotted pickups are expired. All service charges are determined per the discretion of the Public Works Director.
