Job Description:

Police Officer’s general duty law enforcement work in varied areas of the department. Work includes patrol, investigating traffic accidents, investigating criminal activity, serving warrants, traffic law enforcement, responding to domestic disputes, and other work applicable to law enforcement. Employee is highly visible in the community and exercises visible presence to prevent or abate crime. Employee must have the ability to develop a positive public image, display tact and firmness when interacting with criminal suspects or witnesses, apply reasoned and experienced judgment and discretion, and project a positive attitude. Work is performed under the direction of the immediate supervisor and is evaluated for effectiveness, visibility, compliance with standards, public support, and attainment of performance objectives.

Job Description:

Job Description—Beech Mountain Visitor Center Assistant
$15.00 - Pay rate per hour
Background: The Beech Mountain Visitor Center serves between 11,000-13,000 visitors to the Town of Beech Mountain each year. The office is open Monday through Saturday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, seasonally on Sundays. In addition to visitors, the office handles between 8,000 and 10,000 phone calls per year and responds to around 10,000 emails.
Requirements: The Beech Mountain Visitor Center Assistant position requires excellent oral and written communication skills, a positive attitude, and professional demeanor and appearance. As the face of the Town, all employees in the Visitor Center must be welcoming, courteous and polite when dealing with the public, and knowledgeable about the Town of Beech Mountain and the High Country. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office is essential. High school diploma required, college degree preferred. Must have reliable 4WD or AWD transportation.
Job Duties: The Visitor Center Assistant staffs the Visitor Center up to 20 hours per week, including weekends and an occasional evening shift.
• This position is responsible for greeting visitors in the Visitor Center, answering phones, stocking information racks and other daily activities required to serve our guests
• This position assists with Data Collection and collation as needed
• This position will assist Visitor Center communications and outreach
• This position uses office equipment, including computers, phones, copiers and printers
• All employees in the Visitor Center are responsible for light housekeeping daily to present a clean, welcoming environment

Physical Requirements: This position requires the ability to lift and carry up to 20 pounds.

This position works in conjunction with the Visitor Center Receptionist and the Marketing Manager, and reports to the Director of Tourism and Economic Development.

Seasonal Public Works Maintenance Worker

Pay Rate: $16.10 per hour
Job Description:

Seasonal position (40hrs/week) $16.10 per hour, April 1, 2023 through September 30, 2023- A Seasonal Maintenance Worker performs a variety of unskilled and semi‑skilled manual labor tasks, equipment operation and other duties as required within the Public Works Department for roadside maintenance and street maintenance and roadside landscaping. Employees in this class perform a variety of semi‑skilled and unskilled manual labor tasks in the construction, maintenance, and repair of streets, park facilities, and other Town facilities. Work involves serving as a member of Public Works crew. Duties include operating light to medium equipment; maintaining paved and gravel roads; installing and repairing street signs; collecting debris impeding traffic or pose a safety concern; cleaning culverts; making water and sewer taps; assisting in minor repair of equipment and vehicles; removing trees and trimming limbs, snow/leaf removal, and related tasks. Work is performed under regular supervision of Maintenance Crew Leader in accordance with specific instructions and within defined procedures. Valid standard Driver’s License recognized in the State of N.C. required. Positions are open until filled.
