Summer Parks and Recreation Intern

Supervised by Head Counselor and Recreation Activities Coordinator
Objective:
The Summer Parks and Recreation Intern for Beech Mountain’s Parks and Recreation Department will be primarily responsible for assisting the Recreation Activities Coordinator on planning and implementing Buckeye Adventure Camp, a six week summer day camp, and helping with the organization and set up for special events. They will also be responsible for the general safety, development, growth, and skill achievement of the summer camp participants. The intern will be trained on and assist with any duties as needed at Buckeye Recreation Center.
Responsibilities:
· Covering front desk duties
· Assisting with trail and facility maintenance when needed
· Program development and implementation for Buckeye Adventure Camp
· Attending Beech Mountain’s Recreation Committee meetings
· Act as “Head Counselor” for Buckeye Adventure Camp
· Occasional weekend work or evening hours will be required
· Other duties will be assigned as necessary
Qualifications:
· Working towards a degree in Recreation, Education, Management or related fields.
· Upon hire, completion of First Aid and CPR certifications or must be available to attend class on Beech Mountain.
· Experience in camp, youth programs, recreation and working with children.
· Aptitude to lead, plan, organize and implement program activities.
· Ability to work as a member of a team.
· Strong organizational, leadership, communication and interpersonal skills.
· Enthusiastic and positive attitude.
